Our Founder: Amanuel Gebremariam

Over four decades ago, Amanuel embarked on a journey that led him to the United States as a refugee, carrying nothing but hope and resilience in his heart. Settling in Tucson with his family, Amanuel felt a calling to share the unique flavors he cherished from his mother’s kitchen in Ethiopia. In 1993, he opened the original Zemam’s in a modest house on Broadway, with just five tables. The Tucson community warmly embraced this culinary gem, making Zemam’s a beloved destination for those seeking a distinctive dining experience. In 2014, Amanuel expanded his vision by acquiring the former Garland restaurant, birthing Zemam’s, too!. Today, his sons have joined him in the venture, ensuring a bright future with even more to offer.
